PATRICK SHELLEY - DRUMS Patrick started playing drums at the age of six when his father told his sister and him to choose an instrument to learn. He took lessons for a few years and continued to practice diligently in their living room. He began playing shows around Sacramento when he was in junior high school and upon entering high school, he joined the school jazz band. During his senior year, Patrick went on his first tour of the West Coast and shortly after graduating, went on his first full US tour with punk rock band, Final Summation. He continued to tour and record in a very eclectic mix of bands and eventually decided to go to Berklee College of Music in Boston. While at Berklee, Patrick studied jazz and the exploration of time with one of his musical heroes, Kenwood Dennard. He also performed in jazz ensembles with other students from Berklee and the New England Conservatory. Patrick moved to San Francisco in the summer of 2017, and became very active in the Bay Area music scene. In the spring of 2019, he played the South By Southwest music festival in Austin Texas with indie-rock band, Baseball Gregg. GARRETT FONDA - GUITAR & BASS Garrett has been playing, loving, and living music for over 25 years as a professional musician. After years of private lessons and playing/preforming in many music projects locally, including three years in the Elk Grove Jazz Band touring California, winning both soloist and group awards, he was accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he studied harmony, ear training, theory, styles and improvisation. Garrett graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Music/Music Business and has been teaching both Guitar and Bass professionally for the last 15 years, both in store and privately. He is currently in the Graduate program at CSUS studying for a Master’s degree in Musical Performance. While also constantly gigging, touring, and recording. Method: Garrett’s one on one individualized teaching methods focus on two points, 1. That his students have fun and enjoy themselves through a love of music. 2. That they not only learn what they love and enjoy playing but also the techniques and specifics, to ensure a long lasting and ever evolving love of music. He designs a program that is suited to each students individual desires and needs. The hope is that no matter where you go from here, you will be “well rounded” and carry the knowledge and joy of music with you always. He heavily encourages creativity, improvisation, and songwriting from the skills learned in lessons. With Garrett, you will not only learn how to play your favorite song, but also how to “jam” with friends, compose alone or with other musicians, learn how to read music, multiple techniques and styles, ear training, music theory, and a bit of music history. Garrett records each and every lesson, for his students. “Your” lessons are e-mailed to you with helpful hints, audio examples, and play along tools so you will always have a reference, if you need one.
